Biography
Even
before the release of their first album, critics unanimously
hailed their
music with phrases such as “very inventive”,
“catchy” “rare naturalness” and “they play and write
great songs”. The
leading newspaper in Denmark (Politiken) recently named them as
“…one of the two most talented bands in Denmark…”
Their
first demo was praised by Gaffa (the foremost Danish Pop/Rock
magazine) as “Demo of
the Month” and their debut at the Spot
06 festival was an immediate success.
envelope has already played at most of the radio stations in Denmark
as well
as on Go’ Morgen
Danmark, the equivalent of “Good
Morning America” on
Danish National TV
earlier this year, and has been invited to venues through- out
the European continent – all
before even releasing
a first album.
By
the spring of 1998, Christoffer had been isolating himself in
his apartment for one and a half years in order to concentrate
entirely on writing songs. It was just at that time that he
began the auditions that eventually led him to find Morten Ravn
and Jesper Valentin Holm. envelope was conceived in the course
of that spring. Guitarist Jesper Urban, a Dane whom they met on
their first US tour, is the newest addition to envelope.
In
the spring of 2001, envelope made
their first tour to the
US. One of two
hundred - out of over 1200 (and the only Scandinavian band) -
chosen to play at the NEMO showcase in Boston, envelope showcased at T.T.
the Bears Place before playing at a couple of clubs in NYC
including Arlene’s
Grocery. That
summer envelope opened the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and directly
afterwards completed their debut album which was recently
released in Denmark on the Turmic Records/Chicken Farm label,
and will be released in Sweden and Norway in the spring of 2002.
Envelope
toured the UK in September/October
2001 and played at The
Cavern Clubs in Liverpool and Exeter, The
Bull & Gate, Bar Oz, Amersham Arms, etc., and were
invited back to each venue.
In
November 2001, Envelope released their debut album “STAY” and performed on the hugely popular Danish
program “Snurre Snups Söndagsklub”
broadcast on Danish national TV to over 200,000 viewers.
2002 commenced auspiciously with a guest return
appearance on Go’
Morgen Danmark. In
March, envelope performed at Scandinavia’s most important
music showcase festival By:Larm
Festivalen and was chosen as one
of the 21 semi-finalists in the Indie Band Search contest at
www.indiebandsearch.com.
After
narrowing the entries from 550 bands from around the world to
just 21, it was announced on April 17 that envelope had been
named as one of the 10
finalists. envelope's music was heard by an executive
judging panel made up of music industry professionals including
A&R executives from major labels, publishers, radio
programmers, music critics and other industry folks in the US.
